Tea Tasting Workshop – 2&3 April 2013

SLOW FOOD JOHANNESBURG is delighted to invite you to a fun, Educational Tea Tasting Evening.

Tea has a romantic history going back in legend to the Yunnan Province of China some 3,500 years ago.

While there are many excellent flavoured teas available, there is a world of original teas such as Assam, Ceylon, Darjeeling, Lapsang souchong, Oolong – and many more; each with unique intensities of flavour.

To guide and educate us, we are indeed privileged to be hosted by The Tea Merchant Company, with their in-house specialist tea merchants who go into the far reaches of Asia, visiting tea plantations and tea auctions.

Fancy being able to talk about where the tea comes from, but also whether the leaves were harvested in Spring, Summer or Autumn?

The format of the tea tasting would be to commence with single origin, single estate green teas progressing through to some of the less served exotic teas that are available. We could taste approximately 12 teas in an hour with time for discussion on each tea. Each person attending would be seated to a tasting station with perhaps one horizontal tasting across a specific range of teas so that a simultaneous tasting of teas could occur.

For those looking for unique gifts, the Tea Merchant has in stock a beautiful array of pots and cups available at prices suited to the gift you may wish to buy for a friend, loved one or yourself. See http://www.theteamerchant.co.za/
